Distinguishable Mosaic (2022)
Installation
Back in China, up until mid-2023 when pandemic controls were still in place,
life boiled down to two must-haves: keys and masks.
People built their own identities in this masked-up society, speaking volumes through their eyes, posture, and those little personal touches.
With masks slicing right through the middle of their faces, everyone became a kind of “distinguishable mosaic”
I love shooting street photos with my iPhone with no one pays attention.
Max zoom turns everything into a soft, blurry oil painting, like how a nearsighted person sees the world.
So, I snapped the farthest faces I could find.
Ended up with 160 masked strangers, turned each one into an acrylic mosaic tile,
and pieced them together into one big, faceless portrait.
